Tai Chi Lessons Online
Ever thought about finding Tai Chi lessons online? Clearly while a live teacher is much more preferable, many people don’t have the time and/or the money for weekly classes. And some people simply don’t even have a tai chi school near them. And if I’m going to be completely honest to you (and you wouldn’t have it any other way, would you?), many so-called tai chi teachers have only scratched the surface of their training. That is to say many teachers only learned the first level- the choreography. While this is o.k., it’s sort of like a bottle of wine. The bottle is a great container, but what you really want is the delicious liquid inside. It’s the same with tai chi. What you want is the health maintaining, life enhancing, inside stuff. So what do you do if you can’t or won’t go to a local tai chi school? A modern alternative is to find a place that offers good, quality tai chi lessons online.
Tai Chi is thought to have been developed first by the Chen family in northern China. Later it was popularized by the Yang and Wu families. There are several well known (and a few not so well known) family style of Tai Chi. Along with the Chen, Yang, and Wu style already mentioned, there is also the Hao, Sun, Fu, and Chen Panling forms. All these styles share both a common beginning and the same principles. Among these principles are: relaxation, extension, continuity, structure, and intention. Truly, these concepts are the “wine inside the bottle.”
An odd but little known fact (little known to the health and wellness crowd) is that Tai Chi was originally best known as a fighting system. In fact, in his book, Yang style master Chen Weiming wrote: “Everyone knows of Tai Chi’s marvelous skill for fighting. But hardly anyone knows just how good Tai Chi is for one’s health.” Now, of course, just the opposite is true!
So, if you are like many and are looking for excellent tai chi lessons online, it’s best to choose one of the more established schools mentioned above. The Yang style is most popular, with its wide open and flowing movements. One favorite teacher is Master
Chan of Singapore. For more information about Master Chan and Tai Chi lessons online, see the link in my author’s box below.
Buddy Tripp is a co-owner of Harmony Healthworks. He has been teaching Tai Chi for over twenty years. For more information on tai chi lessons online, please see his site at:
