The Power of Habit
One of the most influential forces to shape many of our actions in life is the power of habit . Habit is often overlooked (perhaps because of its simplicity) when we consider why we do or don’t do certain things. If a person were to ask: “Why do I come home from work and sit in front of the TV instead of going for a walk?” or “Why do I go to the refrigerator every time I’m bored?” it seems too easy to answer “Because I’m used to doing it” . But the reality is you do it because it has become a HABIT.

We all know what way we are heading and whether we like it or not we are all going to die at some point. Since the dawn of man (or short thereafter) we have tried to keep death and old age at a distance. An ancient myth talked about the fountain of eternal youth and similar stories have been told time and time again.
Stories about how to keep one from growing old have passed from generation to generation and even today we are spending billions and billions trying to fight it. Some do it by surgery and some try to cover it up with cosmetics. But solutions are only temporary and expensive and I believe that there are better ways to go about it.

Food and Drink
Staying hydrated is important when you exercise. More than 75 percent of your body is made up of water. When you do not drink enough water, your blood does not flow properly and your digestive track do not run smoothly.
Many dieticians have been recommending that we should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day and 9 to 13 if you exercise. Here is where that number comes from:
- You typically lose about 10 cups of water per day
- 2 cups to sweating and evaporation,
- 2 cups to breathing, and
- 6 cups to waste removal.
You can replace up to 2 cups through the water in the foods you eat, but you have to make up the remaining 8 cups by drinking fluids, water being the best choice.

In Morgan Spurlock’s 2004 movie, Super Size Me, the filmmaker focused on how fast food and obesity worked together to create a national epidemic of health and weight concerns. Although it’s no secret that fat laden and greasy hamburgers, french fries, other fried foods and fatty dressings are the staples of America’s fast food empire, is it possible that a diet and fitness program that entails lowering red meat and poultry intake and simply increasing physical activity will contribute to both weight loss and improvements to the environment?

Eating a healthy dessert doesn’t have to break the bank. While it’s true that Twinkies and Ding-Dongs do cost less (in dollars) than quality healthy foods, the cost to our health is truly frightening!
Follow these tips for low-cost healthy desserts:
1) Try fruit! Full of natural sugars, and naturally fat free, fruit is a great dessert choice! Fresh kiwi, apples, pears, plums and oranges can all be found for about 50 cents per serving.
2) Fat-free pudding costs only 79 cents per box and is quite low in calories!
